Surfing enthusiasts flock to Puerto Escondido to try their luck on the “Mexican Pipeline” on Playa Zicatela. There surfing contests held all year long at this beach. The two biggest contests are the International Surfboard Competition in August and the International Surfing Tournament in November. Not so experienced surfers can take surfing lessons, which are offered by many companies along the beach. People with some experience on the waves, but in need of equipment can rent a surfboard or boogie board at the many shops around the area and take to the waves.
