Tourism: Go to the kiosk on the Adoquín and Gina will answer all of your questions (in English). She can tell you exactly where you should go and what is going on during your stay. She is full of information and very helpful. Pick up brochures, cards, and maps here.
Money: Many banks have cash machines, “cajeros,” particularly in the more residential downtown. Ask at your hotel for the closest machine. You can find places to exchange your currency, or “casas de cambio,” on the Adoquín and on Calle del Morrero by Playa Zicatela.
Communications: Since most hotels don’t have internet in Puerto Escondido, thebest place to go is one of the local internet cafés. Some of the better ones are located on the Adoquín and on Calle del Morrero by Playa Zicatela. They only charge about $1.50 per hour. TelMex public telephones are available for calls outside of Mexico (check local advertisements for prices) and you can pick up a phone card at a convenience store. The post office is located on the corner of Av. Oaxaca and Calle 7 Norte but is only open until 3:00 p.m.
Laundry: LavaMax, located on Av. Pérez Gasga 405A, has self-service and a complete wash and dry drop-off service for less than $2.00 per kg of clothing.
Medical: There are clinics, or “consulto medico,” all over Puerto Escondido, and the IMSS government hospital is on Calle 2 Pte. s/n. Pharmacies can be found on Calle Del Morro and the Adoquín. Prescriptions aren’t needed for most drugs in Mexico, just ask for the generic name of the drug you need (as opposed to the brand name). Generic equivalents can to major medications be found on the internet.
Rentals: There are car and scooter or “moto” rental businesses located on the Adoquín. Renting a vehicle can be a convenient way to get around town if you don't want to rely on taxis.
