Green avocados, red tomatoes and dried chiles in every shade of brown line the produce stalls of Mercado Jose Castillo Tielemans, San Cristobal’s daily market. The back stalls are filled with cows, chickens and fish in every stage of being slaughtered with stray dogs waiting patiently in front of the stands for the rare piece of meat that falls on the ground. This is a market where the locals shop and not meant for the faint of heart tourist. The smell gets better after you leave the enclosed area. Around the market, on General Utrilla, you'll find local artisans selling their crafts.
