Templo Santa Domingo Guzman - Historical Building San Cristóbal de las Casas - Mexico

With its ornate, pinkish exterior and gold interior, Santo Domingo is without a doubt the most beautiful and well-known of the San Cristobal churches.

The large interior is filled with life-sized statues of saints; the church is perpetually decorated with fresh flowers and lit candles. The hand-carved gold altar is one of the most impressive sights inside this 17th century church, and matching altars along the walls add to the sense of grandeur.

There are posters on the walls requesting that tourists respect the parish by not taking photographs or visiting when services are taking place.

Confession is offered every Friday from 5-7 p.m. for those who feel guilty after spending a few too many nights in the bars on 20 de Noviembre.

Open: Monday to Saturday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Mass is held on Sunday at 7:30, 11:30, 1:00 and 7:30; the Rosary is said on the first and third Sunday of every month at 4:30 p.m.

The church is located at the corner of 20 de Noviembre and Real de Mexicanos, two blocks north of the zócalo.
