Guadalajara When To Go

Guadalajara's weather is mild outside the warmest months (April - May) and the rainy season (June - September). Several holidays and festivals take place September - December, including the Encuentro Internacional del Mariachis (early September, www.mariachi-jalisco.com.mx), when mariachi bands from around the world converge on the city for a multiplicity of performances. Another must-see is the procession feast day (Oct. 12) of the Virgin of Zapopan. The beloved and revered religious relic called the Virgen de Zapopan (originally a corn-paste statue given to the indigenous local people by a Franciscan friar in the 1500s) is dressed and paraded in a "virginal" vehicle from the Guadalajara cathedral to the Basilica de Zapopan.
