La Fonda De San Miguel Arcángel - Restaurant Guadalajara - Mexico

Said to be haunted, La Fonda de San Miguel Arcángel occupies the site of what used to be the Convent of Santa Teresa de Jesús, whose construction began in 1690 and whose tortured past provides the fodder for what some claim are freaky happenings. Nonetheless, nowadays the space is a sanctuary of dining loveliness lighted by starry fixtures. Folk art chairs and tables surround the courtyard's fountain; parrots and other tropical birds add brightness in the shadows. The menu is fairly fancy cuisine, and priced accordingly. There's also a handicraft shop.

prices are above average for guadalajara. main dishes run 120 -180 pesos. soups and salads 45 - 100. filete san rafael (beef filet with fresh rosemary sauce with buttered vegetables and baked potato 132 pesos). tequila shrimp (fried with bacon, mushrooms and green pepper, 186 pesos). tortilla soup 52 pesos. chile en nogada (poblano pepper stuffed with fruit, cereal and meat and covered in walnut sauce, 133 pesos). desserts are 45 pesos. drinks are about 30 pesos and up.
