Bluefields is fairly safe by day, but gets quite sketchy at night. It's a poor community, so the standard precautions (such as not brandishing valuables) apply. Always take a taxi at night, even if you're only going a few blocks. Keep an eagle eye on your belongings in the area of the bus station and the dock.
