When to go
By far the best time to visit Bluefields is during the Palo Mayo celebrations. These run throughout May, but reach a stupendous climax in the last days of the month. They feature massive street parades, cultural shows, the election of the Festival Queen, and drinking parties that the whole city attends. Check local listings, as the schedule varies from year to year, but generally the biggest celebrations are on May 28 and May 31.
