If you are planning on taking a trip to Pearl Lagoon, make sure to come prepared with a sufficient amount of cash. There are no banks, money wiring services or ATMs. The nearest place with these conveniences is Bluefields, a 45-minute boat ride away. The mail service is sent through Enitel, so it can be received in Pearl Lagoon, but if you need to send something, you’ll have to do so from Bluefields. There are phone services for all Nicaraguan companies, Enitel, Claro and Movistar and one Cyber Café with Internet access (but no Wi-Fi). There is a public heath center and two pharmacies, but no hospital. Local specialties include fishing equipment rentals and guides, as well as bike rentals for $1.00/hour.
