The old pier, which was built in 1924 with local hardwoods, stretches one kilometer long, testimony to Puerto’s better days as an important shipping point. Visitors may have been able to stroll it in the past, but now entry is prohibited by a high chickenwire fence, multiple red signs, and security guards. You can talk your way past the first checkpoint and walk halway out to check out the boats, but no further. Watch it from a distance while sipping a beer from Mirador Kabu Yala’s breezy terrace.
