The most popular way to get to Big Corn Island is by plane, from either Managua or nearby Bluefields. Planes run daily, one in the morning and one in the evening, through La Costena airlines. From Managua, the flight costs $170.00 and takes about an hour and a half, but it is best to get there at least half an hour early. For current schedules and price information, visit www.lacostena.com.ni or call 505-263-2142 /43/44 for reservations. Note to Editor: calls from the states need a 011 country exit code first. This applies to every single phone number in the Nicaragua section. Do you want this included in every review, or should we put aside a specific section to make that clear? Please take the 011 out, since this is not required for calls from Europe etc.
The other way to get there is by boat from Bluefields, which takes about seven hours and costs ten dollars. There are several different companies that provide this service and schedules are constantly changing. Ask around at your hotel or at the harbor for specific information. The least popular method is to take a boat directly from El Rama (see the the El Rama section for details). Small boats run from Big Corn Island to Little Corn Island twice a day at 7:00a.m. and 3:00 p.m. They cost five to ten dollars and take about a half an hour.
