Bearded Monkey

This is one of the most popular places in town, with big dorms and slightly scruffy but adequate rooms around two main courtyards, one of which houses a busy bar and the other a television for evening movies. There are free international phone calls, free internet and plenty of travel information. There is no kitchen and you have to pay for movies and even for corkage for your beers. It remains a fun place to stay, but with a pool the Oasis Hostel may be better value.

Traveler Reviews of Bearded Monkey

Most popular is not always mean anything.

The atmosphere was fun and very full and interesting people.

Although, that didnt make up for the dirty, half assed dorms. Prices very high. Waiting over an hour and half for a pasta, tuna salad and juice. The receptionist and bar ladies were TOTAL bitches. I hate to use the strong language but it true. They couldn´t give you a nice, respectful response to anything, with arrogance and very rude manners. The worst of all was: the bartender, gringo, a huge ego and terrible service skill. Accompanied with, the owner (?) or just in charge man, who busled in and out, grabbing more beer everytime, acting like an over grown teenage boy, making extremely inapprobiate comments and yelling at people/staff in front of clietnts, when it was extremely un called for.

It is a very popular hostel and we heard from other it used to be different. Its is to bad, that it has lost all of that. MANY people agreed with our experiences.

If you do want to wait, the food is good and decently priced. The kitchen ladies who bring it out you very sweet. But we do NOT recommend a stay there.

Ps. Someone got robbed inside the hostel when we were there and outside too!! The staff, didnt even blink an eye.
