Casa de Doña Pilar

This British owned and run guest house offers excellent personal attention and great value for the money. It is only 5 minutes from the main square and offers a relaxing atmosphere and exclusivity. Casa de Doña Pilar offers a different and chilled way to experience Colonial Granada. The owners offer personal attention and a wealth of information on what to do and see.

Note: Some former guests have disputed the advertised proximity of the hotel to the main square.

Misleading Information

When we booked to go to this hotel (or guest house you may call it) we hoped to be in the city, just 5 mins from the centre. On arrival we could tell that we were nowhere near the centre to then be advised it was a 5 min taxi ride away. On arrival, our payment was requested for the full stay after asking questions about the location of the accommodation, we were told to either leave and pay the $30 for the pick up from the airport (a local taxi will cost no more than $2!!)or pay the full amount. We paid the full amount having been told it was only a 10 min walk or $1 taxi ride to the centre of Granada, this was also untrue. We walked the journey through slums (not pleasant) and eventually reached town after 35 mins of walking. Taxis will cost $1 and take 5-10 mins. The accommodation is very simple and clean but there is nowhere local to eat and drink or buy food and the refrigerator was removed because the guests were storing their own food and drinks in it! We saw one description of this accommodation "Luxury Hotel" which had private bathroom and a conference facility, restaurant and bar, this is all untrue. Breakfast is very simple and expect to be frowned upon if you ask for anything different! Use of the kitchen by guests is strictly prohibited. There is no AC and room fans are switched off daily by the owners. The pool is however clean and refreshing. There are numerous places in town with available accommodation and we can only advise to turn up and look around if you are unable to book anything before you arrive. Kevin (owner) has a wealth of knowledge on the area and is very hospitable.

Great way to taste Colonial Granada

This place is five minutes from the main square but you feel as if you are in the countryside. Traveling through Central America can wear you out...so we picked this place to stay 4 days. Wonderful pool, free internet and the best coffee that I've tasted on the trip. The owners attend to the guests themselves and are incredibly informative about all things Granada and Nicaragua. They helped us arrange the best ways to get to places and get us sorted out for our trip to Ometepe. And CLEAN, VERY CLEAN.
