Barrio Martha Quezada has a well-earned reputation as the go-to place for cheap rooms in Managua. Locatedto the west of the Crowne Plaza Hotel ( a great, white pyramid also known as the old Intercontinental Hotel) and just south of the Denis Martínez National Baseball Stadium, the the neighborhood has retained a largely residential feel, even with a growing number of backpackers and the hotels that cater to them. The barrio is centered around Tica Bus terminals (which taxi drivers are more likely to know if they don’t recognize the name “Martha Quezada”), and is also convenient to the Zona Monumental. If you want to find a cheap place to for a long-term stay in the city, this is a good place to look for a bargain. Of course, an influx of tourists has brought with it an accompanying rise in crime. Barrio Martha Quezada is not the place to wander the streets at night; locals will also warn you away from streets known to be inhabited by drug dealers and alcoholics. As with all major cities, be wary of scams and make sure to keep your valuables locked away from public view.
