Plaza de la Cultura de Guatemala might have once been a nice little park as it’s located right across from Managua’s historic center, but the intervening years have not been kind; the plaza has long since been abandoned to vandals and the homeless. The grounds are filled with broken bottles and trash, the benches are wrecked, the trees overgrown and the monuments defaced. If you’re walking back from the Malecón, Plaza de la Cultura is not where you should linger. Speed up your pace or take a detour through the nicer Plaza de la República, across the street.
