El Caramanchel is Nicaraguan for a shack, but this bar has adopted the word with a sly wink. The location, in Managua's historic downtown, was formerly home to the popular clubs Café Amatl and Jarro. It most housed a heavy metal music bar called Chango.
The new owners have tried to revive the mix of salsa, dance hall and electronic music present during the years the location was known as Amatl or Jarro. They have also added bar food with a range of flavors: Colombian empanadas, Mexican quesadillas and burritos, Nicaraguan tortas and a variety of hamburgers.
You might want to sample El Caramanchel's micheladas, a drink that includes tomato juice and a little Tabasco sauce, or the Cuban mojitos.
The location has seating either under a roof or under the trees with Chinese-style lamps providing atmosphere. Dancing is a must.
