Slightly cheaper and a lot less formal than neighboring Crater’s Edge, the Monkey Hut draws more of a backpacker crowd. The stacked bunks of the six-bed dorm ($12) are located to the rear of the main building, with a clean-ish tiled bathroom across the hall. Private rooms (single $18 to $20; double $25 to $28) and a cabin ($45 for two; $60 for three; $75 for four) are also available, although if everything is full, the staff will throw a mattress on the floor or let you sleep in a hammock for $8. The $6 visitor’s day pass gives you access to the hotel’s kayaks, inner tubes and docks (one floating, one high above the water line). The Monkey Hut has no internet or TV, but they do have a brick oven to turn out a steady stream of pizzas. Other food can be ordered from the pulperia down the street; snacks are on the honor system. The hotel was once operated by the Bearded Monkey hostel in Granada, but has since changed hands.
