Most of the visitors to Masaya come to shop. The city has a range of excellent goods, from the beautiful ceramics of Pueblos Blancos to the famous locally-made hammocks. But if you're looking to buy, think twice before going to the Mercado de Artesanias. Although this is Masaya's most famous market, its status as a tourist attraction means prices will be very steep, and vendors less likely to bargain. Instead, head to the Mercado Municipal a few blocks to the east. They have a large handicrafts section with all the same goods as the historic market, at a much cheaper price. For bargains on hammocks, consider heading to the manufacturers themselves. They live in the streets around the Malecon and most have set up little shops of their own. Shop around here for the best prices.
