Fincas are large farms, often coffee plantations, that can be found dotting the Nicaraguan countryside. Many of these fincas now provide lodgings, ranging from luxury to budget, in anything from hammocks and dormitories to private rooms or cabañas. Staying at these farms is a relaxing way to enjoy some of the country’s more remote locations, places where other accommodation options are usually limited. Due to the requirements of coffee growing, former fincas normally occupy fertile, scenic land, often near, or even on, the slopes of volcanoes. Staying at a finca is one of the easiest ways to access and enjoy the beautiful, more remote landscapes that Nicaragua has to offer. As many fincas are still working plantations, there may be opportunities to visit the coffee fields or even volunteer and work on the farm. It is also often possible to purchase coffee from where you are staying, which can make for a great souvenir.
