Student Visas and Volunteer Visas in Nicaragua

Students and volunteer workers are usually eligible for temporary resident visas, which are typically granted in one-year increments. The requirements for such a visa change frequently and vary greatly depending on which immigration official reviews your file. As a general rule, however, you will need a medical certificate, a police background check, proof of financial self-sufficiency and a letter from the organization you’ll be working with or school you’ll be attending. All of these will have to be translated into Spanish, notarized and stamped with an apostille. Assembling these documents and getting them modified to the immigration office’s liking is best done before you leave home, even if you plan to make the actual visa application in Managua. Before starting on the process, however, it is essential to get in touch with a Nicaraguan consulate or embassy to get the most up-to-date information.
