Work Visas for Nicaragua

Work visas are difficult to come by in Nicaragua. With the country’s stratospheric unemployment rate, it is very hard for foreigners to find work here, and even harder to find work that isn’t under-the-table. To qualify for a work visa, you would also have to prove that you provide some service that a Nicaraguan could not. Very few gringos in Nicaragua, even the longtime residents, have such visas; many run their own businesses and have permanent resident visas, or they have retired and stay on with a pensioner visa. Those lucky people who do get work visas are usually employed by international aid organizations or multinational corporations, and their employers typically handle most of the practicalities.
