Turn off the Pan-American Highway some 90 km from Managua and you'll find yourself in Ciudad Darío. Formerly known as Metapa and Chocoyos, the city was renamed for native son and Nicaraguan poet, Rubén Darío. Today, the house where Darío was born has been renovated and converted into a museum; it remains one of the most popular attractions in the city. You can also head just outside Ciudad Darío to the fishing lagoons of Tecomapa, Moyúa and Playitas or to the hiking trails that lead off into the rocky terrain.
