Parque Ruben Dario - City Plaza Matagalpa - Nicaragua

Providing leafy respite from the heat, Parque Ruben Dario, named for the premier Modernist poet in Latin America, is one of two small parks in Matagalpa. Grab a coffee at the snack shack, kick back and watch the abuelitos playing poker. If you’re feeling spendy, step into the La Perla (772-2464, 772-6040), a tiny shop selling this region’s characteristic black ceramics. Locals continue to chat it up, even at night, when strings of light brighten the trees, and the park takes on an enchanting air.
