Volunteering

As of 2006, Nicaragua has become one of the only countries in the world with a complete ban on abortion. This issue as well as those having to do with domestic violence, teen pregnancy, rape and political activism are the focus of Grupo Venancia. Through the use of educational workshops, cultural programs, popular campaigns and even a radio show, this feminist haven, made up entirely of women, seeks to combat various forms of female oppression in Nicaragua. The Grupo also host a barrage of cultural events, including film nights and concerts. Those interested in volunteering should contact Luisa at venancia9@turbonet.com, 772-3562. Only women fluent in Spanish are accepted as volunteers and positions are determined based on skills, experience and desired length of stay.
