Other than Matagalpa Tours, there are no licensed tour companies in the city. However, independent guides can be contacted and hired through the Intur office, located one block north of Iglesia de San Felipe de Molaguina, on the opposite side of the street (open 7 am to 1 pm, Monday-Saturday).Prices for guides are negotiated and depend on group size, destination and duration of tour. The major drawback of going with independent guides as opposed to Matagalpa Tours is that they do not provide private transport or meals. Norlan Albuquerque, who works at the Intur, is personally initiating the development of maps, hikes and other elements of tourist infrastructure the region is currently lacking.
