There are four main Surf Shops in San Juan del Sur, all of which are located within a four-block radius of each other in the center of town. All of them offer surf lessons for different levels, board rentals and bicycle rentals. Nica Surf sells surfer clothing and supplies and provides high-end tours for those interested in a more luxurious overview. Arena Caliente is the oldest surf shop in SJDS. It is owned and operated by Nicaraguans, and was started by Byron Lopez. They offer trips by car to all neighboring beaches and even have a hostel. Sol Caliente offers boat tours to private beaches for $25/per person, with no time limit. They also have the best board selection for rentals in all of town, and rent weekly and daily. They may be changing their name soon, but just send an email to SolCaliente.sjdj@gmail.com, or ask around for ‘Dave Surf Shop.’ Surf and Sport, owned by a man named Eu (pronounced Ay-you) also has rentals and does boat tours. For info and guides, seek out shop. For independent surfers, transportation to nearby beaches is easily available. Head to one of the surf shops for conditions and transportation information.
