Turtle Watching

From the months of July to January or February, it is possible to see thousands of turtles laying and hatching eggs along local beaches and at the Turtle Nesting Sanctuary. If you walk around, you will see signs posted advertising “Turtle Watching.” Most hotels and hostels also offer turtle-watching trips, including Casa Oro, Casa Feliz and Pelican Eyes. Tours cost from $25-$35, and go between 7:30 p.m. and 1:30 a.m., when either pregnant turtles arrive on the beach to lay their eggs or, later in the season, the baby turtles start hatching and crawling into the water.
