Safety
Like most of the Rio San Juan region, San Carlos is very safe. On the weekends you may see a couple of drunks brawling in the street, but violence is not common, especially against tourists. There are also tourist police that patrol the streets, as well as regional police. Petty theft is not frequent, but has been known to occur from time to time. As always, exercise caution, keep your valuables from public view and be aware of your surroundings.
