Mercado de Artesanias

Location:
2 blocks east of Parque Central.
Masaya, Nicaragua

Market Types:
Craft market

By Mike Karanicolas

This is Nicaragua's most famous market, located in an elegant century-old structure. Every Thursday, the “Night of Revelry” features folkloric dancing and music, as well as local food. It's a major tourist draw, and as such you can expect prices to be quite highly inflated (though just as highly negotiable). It's an interesting place to see, and shouldn't be missed. However, if you actually want to pick up some souvenirs, you can find much better prices at the Mercado Municipal down the street.
