Playa Jiquilillo
Jiquilillo, a fishing village located on a wide stretch of beach, is a town that has seen its share of natural disasters. Once, the Jiquilillo shore was lined with hotels and restaurants, but the area was hit by both a tsunami (Sept. 1992) and Hurricane Mitch (Oct. 1998). The two disasters wiped out many of the structures that previously existed and Jiquilillo has never fully recovered. Nowadays a few hospedajes and some beach homes exist alongside remnants of abandoned thatched roof buildings.
