If you’re interested in churches you’re in luck, for Chinandega is full of 17th and 19th century religious architecture such as the the Santuario de Nuestra Señora Guadalupe, the Parroquia Santa Ana, with its gold altar, or the Iglesia El Calvario. The churches are open to be explored when Masses or other services are not being held.
The city is a good stopping point on the way to other nearby destinations; it's a place to explore for a day or two and maybe pick up some needed items at the market.
