You won’t find yourself twiddling your thumbs in Nicaragua’s northwest, where attractions range from smoking volcanoes to ancient ruins. Are old churches your thing? Chinandega and Leon have them in plenty, colorful and grandiose. The beaches out in this section of the country are spectacular, although they have been battered by hurricanes, and there can never be enough said about the volcanoes around the Ring of Fire (especially not when you can head down Cerro Negro on a board -
