In many ways, this is a typical Central American cathedral. It's spacious, elegant, beautifully designed, and badly in need of restoration. The wooden altar-piece is probably the church's most impressive aspect aesthetically, though at time of review the rich carvings were rather tackily decorated with plastic flowers and florescent lights. Look up at the ceiling and you'll see a prominent sun icon, said to have been added in an attempt to cajole the indigenous into worshiping here.
