This massive edifice is Central America's biggest cathedral, and is one of the highlights of a visit to Leon. From the outside it appears as just another great church, but the towering marble columns of the interior are enough to leave a visitor breathless. A stunning display of grand neo-classical architecture, the place is beautifully maintained, and the walls are decorated with exquisite frescoes. Perhaps the highlight of this magnificent buliding is climbing to the roof where can walk right up to the edge and enjoy some amazing views. Located in Parque Central, this cathedral is absolutely not to be missed. Tickets for the roof must be bought from little crypt hidden at south-east corner of cathedral, then ascend by stairs on left of main entrance.
