This massive edifice is Central America's biggest cathedral, and one of the highlights of a visit to Leon. From the outside it appears as just another large church, but the towering marble columns of the interior are enough to leave a visitor breathless. A stunning display of grand neo-classical architecture, the place is beautifully maintained, and the walls are decorated with exquisite frescoes.
Perhaps the best way to fully take in this magnificent building is by climbing to the roof where you can walk right up to the edge and enjoy some amazing views. Tickets for the roof must be bought from little crypt hidden at south-east corner of cathedral, then you ascend by stairs on the left of the main entrance.
