In theory, there is a port where you can catch a boat from the mainland to Isla Momotombito (if you’re desperate to see a handful of petroglyphs and statues left over from ancient ceremonies). In reality, you have to make your way to the edge of the lake from Leon Viejo and then find a fisherman willing to take you the nine kilometers to the island. Be prepared to pay over C$2,000 for the privilege. The small cone, a baby compared to the giant Momotombo, is easily visible from the ruins of the old Leon.
