Centro Commerical sells bags, shoes and clothes between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily, but it’s along Calle 2 Norte where you can find rows of bathing suit stores (as well as dentists and opticians, oddly enough). Mercado Central (open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily) is where you can find pyramids of fresh fruit, vegetables and local arts and crafts. Religious statues and crosses made out of wood and iron are León specialties. Leon has several supermarkets, but La Union (505-2-311-5913, open from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday to Saturday and until 8 p.m. Sundays) has a wide range of fresh foods and individual portions.
