Bus routes between León and Puerto Sandino make regular stops at Miramar, a tiny seaside spot with fewer services but better beach access than its port neighbor.
Like the neighboring spots of El Velero, El Tránsito and Puerto Sandino, Miramar has a growing reputation as a surf spot. Tour companies such as www.surftoursnicaragua.com offer transportation so clients can take advantage of the breaks at either end of the shore.
Miramar’s lovely crescent beach is lined with vacation retreats, ranging from shacks to extravagant mansions. Other than Semana Santa, Christmas week and other high holidays, few owners make regular trips out to the isolated village, which means that you’ll likely have the entire stretch of sun, sand and clear water to yourself. There is no official accommodation in town, but you can usually find a place to string a hammock if you ask around. Mari Gonzalez (cell: 505-8-665-3482) rents out rooms with the very basics (think plank beds, well water and latrines) at Casa Adilia Telles.
Miramar also lacks restaurants of any kind, although one or two informal fritangas open during lunch and dinner time. Just follow your nose to the greasy food.
