Poneloya’s sweeping crescent of black and gold sand, ample fish and rolling breakers seem destined to turn the tiny town into a hotspot. Since Poneloya is located only a 40 minute bus ride from Leon, the town’s single street has already filled up with vacation homes. Unless you visit during Semana Santa or other high holiday, though, you’re likely to find that you have the wide beach to yourself. Accommodations and eateries are also scarce; Hotel La Casa Blanca and Hotel and Restaurante Posada del Poneloya are your only choices for sleeping. More options can be found down the beach (or about 3 km along the road) in Las Penitas.
