Getting To and Away From Poneloya

Buses to Poneloya and Las Penitas leave Mercado Felix Pedro C. in Leon every hour between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m. The trip costs C$10 ($0.50) per person and is roughly 40 minutes long, due to road work. (Construction on the road between the beaches and the city started in the spring and is expected to continue throughout 2009.) When the road is not under construction, the trip takes 25 minutes. Buses stop in Poneloya first and then head back to Las Penitas. On the return trip, buses pass the Poneloya entrance.

From Poneloya, buses to Leon leave once every hour from a stop in front of Barco de Oro. (You can also catch them en route.) Make sure that, if you only plan to spend the day at the beach, you catch the last bus at 6:40 p.m. The schedule of Las Penitas departures is as follows: 5:40 a.m. 6:35 a.m. 7:30 a.m. 8:25 a.m. 9:20 a.m. 10:15 a.m. 11:10 a.m. 12:05 p.m. 1 p.m. 1:55 p.m. 2:50 p.m. 3:45 p.m. 4:40 p.m. 5:50 p.m. 6:40 p.m. (at the corner)
