Kalymnos, family, Greece
Kalymnos is one of those hidden travel treasures that most people in their lifetime will most likely never visit. It is not a place that anyone would find in a random guidebook; it is a place that, if a person is adventurous enough, they would go and explore it.
My main reason for going was that my Greek grandparents came from this tiny island, close to the brim lining of Turkey, and I always said that I would go someday.
Kalymnos is known as the "Spongediver's island," because it was a fisherman's island for most of it's existing life. An appropriate gift would be of course, a sponge! Kalymnos' beaches are gorgeous (as for most of Greece's beaches anyway), and the nightlife is amazing. When I first arrived, in two hours the whole island knew I was there. Of course, having family may have done that simple trick, but, besides the beauty, the gorgeous port of Kalymnos and the friendly people and delicious food, Kalymnos is definitely a recommended gold star to travel too if a person wants a Santorini experience with half the tourists.
