Dublin might not be a big city on world scale, but it’s definitely world famous. Even if you originally came to Ireland for the majestic nature and rural landscape, Dublin is an absolute must to visit along the way.

In addition to the numerous pubs, you’ll find fancy shopping malls, urban cafes and chic restaurants in every part of town.

The River Liffey divides the city into South and North and has become a natural location for most of the main attractions. This is where you’ll find original Guinness brewery, Grafton Street shopping area and Temple bar.

Dublin can trace its origins back over 1000 years. The modern English name came from the Viking settlement of Dyflin. The Vikings ruled Dublin for almost three centuries and you can still find traces of their presence. Take a step back in history and visit some of the ancient and historic fortifications located throughout Dublin County.

The many museums are a great way to get briefed on local history, while you get some of the mandatory sightseeing out of the way. You can also discover more of the city on one of the many bus, walking or boat tours on offer.

If you want to retreat from the big-city life, Dublin’s numerous parks and gardens work as the lungs of the city with more than 2000 hectares of green space. Check out the historic Phoenix Park, the many nature reserves, or maybe spend a day golfing? Dublin is definitely the right place to swing the club, as it’s got over 60 of the finest golf courses in the country.

About four million people live within the area of Greater Dublin. Dubliners are known to be extremely patriotic, as well as unusually informed on their own background and culture.

No Dublin visit would be complete without a taste of local brew and traditional pub culture. Although today Dublin is a cosmopolitan city where you’ll find all the bars your heart desires, you shouldn’t miss out on the off-track watering holes, where the floors are still covered with hay, the fireplace is lit and local musicians play their violins and dance, until you can’t remember why you ever have to leave this place.
