Norwegians like their beer. And their booze. And their wine. You won’t have a problem finding a waterhole for the whole time you’re here. Or people to join you for that matter.
Norwegians are slightly like the average American when it comes to alcohol. In other words most of them don’t drink to enjoy the sweet, underlying aroma, but to get drunk.
One possible explanation for the heavy intake might be Norwegians nature of being. They tend to be quite stiff and up-tight people (as you’ll quickly come to realize if you attempt to smile at a stranger, and they look back at you as if you were an escaped con from a mental prison), but a few beers down the line, they’re the most outgoing, friendly people ever.
If the prices in general haven’t knocked you out already, the drinks definitely will. Eighteen bucks for a beer or twenty for a cocktail is average at any decent party scene. This is why Norwegians prefer to start the party at home. If you get invited, remember to bring your own booze! Chances are low anyone is up for sharing their precious drops.
Dress code depends on the place you’re going. But never show up in shorts and white sneakers. ID is always a good idea to bring along, and don’t forget that in Norway the clubs that sell liquor has a minimum age limit of twenty, while places that only sell beer and wine has eighteen as their limit.
