The Palace Hotel in Buçaco is one of Portugal’s most famous and elegant inns, being set in an actual nineteenth-century palace commissioned by King Carlos. Staying there is very expensive and beyond the means of most travelers, but you might want to visit the restaurant if you’re passing through. Dinner at the restaurant is a classy, delicious affair. For about €40, you select one appetizer, one main course, and then select from a dessert tray. The food and service are first-class, and considering the elegant dining room was built for Kings and Queens, chances are you’ll like it, too. It’s an expensive proposition, but certainly memorable! There is a sort of café service as well, if you’re just passing through and would like to relax on one of the balconies and enjoy a cold beer or snack.

Not everyone can cough up 40 Euros for dinner...but if you can, this is the place for you! First-class.
