When the Portuguese Royal family lived in the splendid Queluz Palace, they needed a home for all of the servants, cooks, maids and other support staff. They built an attractive building for them nearby, close enough for them to be able to work, but far enough to remind them of their place. This elegant building, with a most impressive clock tower, has been converted into a first-class pousada, or inn. It is painted the same dazzling pink of the palace exterior.

The pousada has 26 very nice rooms and a small café where breakfast is served: dinner is not served there, but rather across the street at the palace. It is a first-class hotel with all that implies: good service, well maintained facilities, etc. That said, it should be noted that the beds are, for some reason, rather uncomfortable.
