In a country in which almost every city seems to have amazing history, from Roman ruins to medieval convents or grand palaces, Granada stands out. Home of the last and greatest Moorish kingdom in Spain, Granada traces its roots back to Roman times and also features priceless Moorish and Renaissance treasures.
The most fascinating visitor attraction in Granada (if not in all of Spain) is without a doubt the Alhambra, the grand palace of the last Moorish king to rule in the Iberian Peninsula. The Alhambra should not be missed, but getting in to see the best parts of it can be tricky: check out our Alhambra Tips and Advice page for help.
The cathedral of Granada is worth a visit, and it is there where you can see the tombs of Spain’s most famous King and Queen, Ferdinand and Isabela. If you're done sightseeing, head into the Albyazin, or old Arab quarter, for some shopping and a good tapas meal. Afterwards, check out a Flamenco show in a gypsy cave.
