Hostel

By Suzanne Russo

With only four rooms, this hostel on a quiet side street near Plaza Nueva gives a new meaning to the word “homey.” A converted, well-maintained space with traditional Andalusian décor, entering Venecia is more like an arrival at one’s grandparents’ home than check-in at a hostel. The charming proprietors who live onsite add to the cozy atmosphere and are always ready to offer a smile and a cup of tea. With the Alhambra just up the hill, they gladly help you reserve tickets to that stunning landmark or to Flamenco shows in the nearby caves.

A JOKE

Rating: 0%

At first everything seemed fine. The room was OK and the owners seemed friendly. But,  the last day I had an asthma attack and had to go to the hospital. My husband called the owner at 9 a.m. to warn him that we were going to the hospital and probably wouldn't be able to check out on time. And we also said that we COULD PAY HIM one more night if needed. On the telephone the owner seemed OK with that. We came back from the hospital at about 3 p.m. and went directly to the hostel (we were actually staying at about 5 minutes from the hostel in another building). The owners seemed like other people. They were extremely rude to me and my husband, kicking us out of the hostel and telling us off because we were late. They told us not to "sit on the bed" nor "use the toilet" and "leave immediately" and were also suggesting that I was lying and that I "didn't seem ill!!!"
