Sevilla, as the port of entry for all Spanish ships arriving from the New World, was once one of the wealthiest cities in the world. This history can be seen in the magnificent buildings and parks for which the city is famous. One of Spain's most vibrant cities, there is enough to see and do in Sevilla to last any traveler at least a week.
There are some must-sees, however. The Giralda tower, built by the Moors, is attached to the cathedral, which in itself is magnificent and features the remains of Christopher Columbus. Even if you don't want to climb the ramps that lead to the top of the tower, you'll want to take photos of this Sevilla landmark.
Don't miss the Alcazares Reales, a palace/castle adjacent to the cathedral. First constructed by the Moors, these royal castles were expanded by the Christian monarchs. Much of it is done in the mudejar style, like the Alhambra, and the original paint has survived better here. There are also some pleasant gardens and some of the most impressive tapestries you'll ever see.
Parque Maria Luisa, not far from the old town, is a sprawling park that is home to, among other things, Sevilla's archaeological museum.
Once you're through sightseeing, hit some traditional restaurants for tapas or paella and then take in a flamenco show.

It was designed as a minaret (a place where the Muslim muezzin call the faithful to prayer) and served this function until...

Real Alcázar

The Alcázar of Seville was once a Moorish palace not unlike the Alhambra in nearby Granada, bit its history is significantly different. It was a palace-fortress under the Moors, specifically the Almohades. In 1248, the city fell to the Christian reconquest, and much of the fort was damaged,...
