Known for its ancient Roman Baths built on the only natural hot springs of England, Bath is a popular tourist destination and a relaxing getaway for Londoners. Located on the southwest region of the island, the small city of Bath is a quiet place of beautiful sceneries in its surroundings, for which is probably best to travel by land. Before you start looking for the car keys, consider taking a train or bus to this destination; parking in Bath is scarce and complicated and traffic wardens are non-forgiving.
The first must-see attraction of Bath is the Roman complex, which is well preserved, along with the rest of the city, by UNESCO’s World Heritage Center. Audio tours in seven different languages can guide you through the steamy pools and old stone of this ancient spa, and just in case you feel the burning need to jump in, a wide variety of the best spas of England await in the city.
Once you have been properly pampered, consider walking through the last medieval church of England, Bath Abbey, built in 1499 by a Bishop named Oliver King. Adjacent to the Roman Baths, the church is actually the third religious structure to offer worship at that site. Abbey still offers worship services on a daily basis. It doesn’t take much time to see the entire city, which is why visiting Bath should include a countryside ride to its surroundings. Other attractions include visiting the Jane Austin Center, which displays an authentic period atmosphere of the author’s time. Tea time at the center is probably most enjoyable, with real leaf tea and home made cake. If nightfall should come before you catch your ride back, a wide selection of bed and breakfasts and inns offer accommodations ranging from £40-100.
