V!VA User‘s Description

On the corner of Cleveland and Kenmore street in New York City sits a small taco shack with neon lights emblazoning the words La Esquina, or "The Corner." At first glance one might consider La Esquina to be simply a taqueria, open until 5 o'clock in the morning, which it is. But as you take a few steps further inside this cozy taco stand you will discover it is much more. Standing near an open doorway which leads to a steep staircase is a host with a list of names. Once given the go ahead by the host the real adventure begins. The climb down a long and narrow set of stairs ends in a dark hallway. Keep going and you will find yourself in the kitchen, amid fast-moving cooks and the loud clanging of dishes. The path continues through the kitchen and ends at yet another entrance. The lights here are dimmer and the ceiling much lower. Upon reaching this destination it seems as though you have discovered an underground cavern, packed from wall to wall with trendy patrons. The experience starts at the bar, where the specialty is, of course, the house margarita. The bar is not open to just anyone, however. In fact no walk-ins are welcome at all (reservations are required even for the bar). After the bar, guests make their way to a table. The tables are close together in this cozy, dimly-lit cave. The menu consists of traditional mexican flavors with an upscale twist. The ceviche is highly recommended to all seafood lovers who are in need of something refreshing. From its hidden location to its delicious food, La Esquina is New York City's most popular secret.
